False - Coliform bacteria is a general term that describes a group
of related bacteria that live in water, soil, and animal (and human)
intestines. Most of these bacteria are harmless and actually help
us digest our food. Coliform bacteria are used as a measure of
water quality because the extent of their presence can indicate
if the water has been contaminated with fecal matter, which probably
contains harmful pathogens.
