In 2004 Summer, Dr. Theodore Tong, Associate Dean and Professor at the College of Pharmacy, and Director of the Arizona Poison Control System took part in MedStart. On July 6th, Debbie Gevirtzman, Samanthi Hewakapuge from the Community Outreach and Education Program, and Katherine Horak (CATTS fellow) conducted the "Toxicity Testing with California Blackworms", as a part of the MedStart program. There were 45 studnets and thery were split into two groups for the presentation and lab. Students received an introduction to toxicology and observed the effects on alcohol on California blackworms, while practicing their lab techniques and working together in small groups.
